The ever changing world of college sports has struck again. Illinois freshman center Morez Johnson Jr. has entered the transfer portal, CSOM Sports has learned. He will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Johnson played in 30 games for Illinois this season and averaged 7.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, while shooting 64% from the field.
This is the second Illini player to enter the transfer portal after sophomore forward Carey Booth, entered the portal on Thursday.
Johnson originally committed to Illinois in November of 2021 as a sophomore in high school. By the time he arrived in Champaign he was ranked as the No. 1 player in the state and was a consensus top-30 recruit nationally.
With sophomore center Tomislav Ivisic undecided about his collegiate future, the Johnson portal announcement leaves a major hole for the Illini to fill ahead of next season.
Illinois finished the 2024-25 season at 22-13, losing to Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament Round of 32 this past weekend.
