Reese, the No. 7 overall pick by the Chicago Sky in the 2024 WNBA Draft, has been instrumental in leading the new wave of WNBA interest in Chicago and across the world.
The Chicago Sky All-Star forward has excelled on and off the court as she has brand sponsorship deals with Reebok, McDonald's, Reese’s, Beats to name a few in her second season in Chicago. Reese was also honored as BET's Sportswoman of the Year and appeared on the cover of Vogue magazine.
Reese partnered with Cash App last week to launch a renovated outdoor basketball court in Chicago named "Angel's Court" located near Oakwood Beach. The courts are themed after the Chicago Sky, and feature two full basketball courts with eight rims. This project seeks to promote community strength and provide access to basketball for young girls in Chicago.
Angel Reese shared the vision behind the project with Chicago State of Mind Sports:
“I didn't know what it was going to look like. I know they were going to do the court, and that's something I really emphasize on giving back to the community. Chicago has poured so much into me. They've done so many great things for me in only a year and year and a half now, but I'm just super happy to call this place home. Obviously, I didn't want to Baltimore as well, and it has been my second my hope that can be on the LSU as well. So I know a lot of people have sent me selfies there, and it's really nice by the water. Everybody wants to be by the water, but it's really nice though. I'm really happy a lot of people have given me great feedback”.
Chicago Sky Coach Tyler Marsh also spoke to Chicago State of Mind about Reese's gesture, “This whole court is really cool, It's awesome, it was an awesome moment. It's something she should be proud of so we're really proud of it for her as well.”
Reese also had an inspiring message for a young fan this week, that went viral on social media. Reese continues to show her true character and authentic love and appreciation for Chicago. The young fan shared excitement after receiving an Angel Reese jersey as a gift. Reese seems to truly appreciate and appreciate the love she receives from her young fans and those around the WNBA who support the game.
It's truly refreshing to see WNBA stars interact with it's young fan base as the game continues to grow.
